“Simplicity is the essence of happiness” – Cedric Bledsoe.
Although minimalism has been around for a long time, now more than ever it is a growing phenomenon and an international trend as the world we live in changes dramatically. This “back to basics” aesthetic so popular worldwide, not only as an aesthetic choice but as a general mentality and lifestyle choice.
Minimalist architecture is about achieving better design through simplicity – a simplicity of form, space, materiality, detail, and color. Minimalist design also shows restraint and a careful paring down and editing of spaces to get to a place of clarity.
We appreciate modern minimalist design at xm+a architecture. Who doesn’t like clean, open spaces that allow the architecture, the furniture, and the materials in the room to breathe? It’s the simple, honest detailing and simple materials that make minimalism so appealing and why we enjoy creating minimalist spaces – because we appreciate the calmness, the warmth, and the beauty that these kinds of spaces exude.
Characteristics of modern minimalist house design include:
- Simplicity in form and function
- Uncomplicated cladding & wall finishes
- Clean, open, light-filled spaces
- Simple detailing devoid of decoration
- Strategic use of materials for visual interest, texture, and personality
Minimalist + Luxury
We would like to show you the example of the home that contains all the design components necessary for both a minimalist and luxury abode. These two styles may have once been almost opposites, but in this home – they work together to create something that can only be described as a minimalist luxury:
The home, designed by the architect Igor Sirotov from Kiev, is relatively small, but makes up for space in an abundance of charm and sophistication. The stunning interior turns luxury and minimalist into synonyms and effortlessly blends the two together – creating a true vision that cannot be ignored.
Minimalist style is defined by simplicity and spareness. While luxury focuses more on comfort and elegance, usually at a great expense. So how are these two styles merged in this house? We see the minimalist style in the monochromatic color palette and simple furniture. Although the furniture is simple, it exudes comfort and the entire room is the picture of elegance and grace.
At xm+a architecture we appreciate minimalism, but we think about every detail of the building. It is not easy to decide what details should be the most important, but once we get to know our client and his/her preferences, we can create a spacious minimalist house that perfectly suits to it’s habitants.
